The short answer

What intercom installation includes

A video intercom has three parts. An entry panel at the street door with a camera, a station inside each apartment or suite, and a door release. Visitors press a name, you see and talk to them, and one tap lets them in. iGTD installs it as one of the commercial security systems for NYC buildings, often together with cameras and access control.

  • Video entry panels
  • Apartment and suite stations
  • Answer and unlock from a phone
  • Reuses old wiring where it can
  • Board-ready scope

Apartment intercom systems

Residents see who is downstairs before they buzz anyone in, and they can answer from the screen in the apartment or from their phone. That cuts down on tailgating and buzzed-in strangers. NYC buildings with 8 or more units must keep a working intercom, so a new system also takes a violation off the table.

  • A screen in the apartment or an app
  • See the visitor before you open
  • Directory on the panel, easy to update

Buzzer and audio intercom upgrades

Old buzzer and audio systems can usually move to video without opening every wall. Where the old wiring is in good shape we run the new system on it, and where it is not we pull new cable along the cleanest route, the same way we handle structured cabling.

  • Old wiring reused where it tests good
  • Panel swap at the street door
  • Install scheduled around residents

Gate intercoms

Courtyards, driveways and parking gates get their own video station. A visitor calls from the gate, you see them and release the gate from the screen or your phone. It runs on the same system as the front door, so there is one list of residents and one app. Pair the gate with access control installation and residents open it with a fob.

  • Video station at the gate
  • Release from a screen or a phone
  • Same system as the front door
Pricing

How your system is priced

The price depends on the building more than the panel. The free on-site survey counts the units, tests the old wiring and checks the entrance, and you get the price in writing before any work starts.

What sets the price
  • 1Number of apartments or suites
  • 2Screens in each unit, or app only
  • 3Whether the old wiring can stay
  • 4Number of entrances and gates
  • 5The street door and its lock

Intercom installation questions

Still have a question? Call 929-299-8400.

How much does it cost to install an intercom system?

It depends on the number of apartments or suites, whether each one gets a screen, whether the old wiring can stay and how many entrances you have. iGTD gives you a free on-site estimate and a written price before any work starts.

Are intercoms required in NYC apartment buildings?

NYC buildings with 8 or more units must keep a working intercom that lets tenants talk to visitors and release the door. A broken one can lead to an HPD violation, so it is worth fixing or replacing quickly.

What can I replace my old building intercom with?

A video intercom. The street door gets a camera panel, each apartment gets a screen or an app, and the door releases from either one. Old wiring can often be reused.

Can residents answer the intercom from their phone?

Yes. Residents can answer and release the door from the station in their apartment or from a phone app, so they never miss a delivery.

Can an electrician install an intercom?

Intercoms are low voltage work. iGTD Technology is a low voltage contractor and a NY State licensed security installer, and intercoms are a large part of what we do.

Do you install gate intercoms?

Yes. Courtyard, driveway and parking gates get a video station that runs on the same system as the front door.
